The Grinch, a creation of Dr Seuss, first appeared in the 1957 book *How the Grinch Stole Christmas!*. The character is a green, furry creature who lives in a cave on Mount Crumpit, overlooking Whoville.

Motivated by his intense dislike of Christmas and the cheerful Whos who celebrate it, The Grinch attempts to ruin the holiday by stealing all their presents, decorations, and food on Christmas Eve. He is typically portrayed as a grumpy, solitary figure.
